AIDIS and IIUNAM 2º Environmental Engineering Scholarship Opening

The Jury integrated to evaluate the requests received in time and form for opt for the Inter-american Scholarship in Environmental Engineering IIUNAM-AIDIS 2008 - 2 decided unanimously of offer it to the Master Ismael Leonardo Edge Port, of Colombian nationality, Civil Engineer of the Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander (Cúcuta, Colombia) and Magister in Hidro-systems of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogotá Colombia).

International Seminar on Environmental Trials Laboratories accreditation

Dezember 10th - 12th, São Paulo, Brazil

 

"Environmental Trials Laboratories accreditation" was the theme of the international seminar ocurred among December 10th and 12th, in August Ruschi Amphitheater, in paulista environmental agency headquarters, with national and international participation of specialists. The event, directed to laboratories techs, specialists of governmental agencies and consultants of the private sector that generate or utilize environmental information, constitutes the first one of a series of activities to be developed in the environment of the agreement of technical-scientific cooperation signed in last August among CETESB – Companhia of Tecnologia of Saneamento Ambiental and AIDIS – Inter-American Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering.

The event included national exhibitors: of INMETRO – National Institute of Metrologia, Normalização and Qualidade Industrial, of ABRALAM – Associação Brasileira of Laboratórios Ambientais, techs from CETESB and international: ones from CEPIS – Centro Pan-Americano de Ingeniería Sanitaria y Ambiental, Peru and from AIDIS/CHILE. Hundred sixty-four technicians of many Brazilian cities participated of the event. The Seminar had prior disclosure, through CETESB, AIDIS and ABES – Associação Brasileira of Engenharia Sanitária and Environmental – Section of São Paulo websites, and the works presented are available in this website.

Integrating water and sanitation in sustainable development

CWWA

 

The Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) which has been a member of AIDIS since 1997, held from October 2nd to 4th 2007, its 16th Annual Conference and Exhibition at the St Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino. The theme of this year’s conference was “Integrating Water and Sanitation in Sustainable Development”.

President Adalberto Noyola brought greetings on behalf of AIDIS at the Opening Ceremony.

The conference is the only one of its kind in the Caribbean, which provides a meeting place each year for all levels of the water, wastewater and solid waste sector. Here a range of suppliers / exhibitors both regional and international can be found. The Caribbean Ministerial forum is also an integral aspect of the conference as it provides an opportunity for Water Ministers, Utility Heads, Regional and Internationally recognized bodies to congregate and discuss issues of regional importance.
The 16th Annual Conference and Exhibition included representatives from over fifty (50) regional companies, forty four (44) exhibition booths, two hundred and fifty seven (257) pre registered delegates and sixty one (61) technical papers were presented over the three day period of the conference.
Professionals in the water, wastewater and solid waste sectors presented technical papers related to the theme of the conference in the areas of:

  1. Solid Waste
  • Sustainable Development
  1. Wastewater Management
  • Water Supply Management
  1. Watershed Management

 

Each year practicioners are recognized at the Award ceremony for Distinguished and Prolonged Service to the water, wastewater, solid waste and environmental sectors and for their ability to present technical reports to a diverse audience.
This year’s gold awardee was Mr. Athill Rawlins, past Manager / Water Engineer at the Water Services Department, Government of St Kitts – Nevis. Mr. Rawlins served on a variety of Boards and ensured continuous development of the Water Service to his country during his tenure from 1973 to 2002.

Mr. Lufrido Croes of Web Aruba N.V. was the recipient for the Engineer Ronald Williams Award for Technical Excellence. The winning paper was entitled “The Aruba Experience to Achieve a Negligible Percentage of Non Revenue Water”.

Project "clearing house" for the integral management of municipal solid waste in Latin America and the Caribbean

AIDIS - DIRSA - IDRC

 

This Project arises of the initiative and care by sustainable management of waste by IDRC, International Center of Investigation for the Development and with financial support of the Italian Government, through its Department dell Environment and della Protects of the Territory, whom unite efforts with the Inter-American Association of Environmental and Sanitary Engineering –AIDIS in its Division of Residues- DIRSA, complement the aspect bias its expert professionals in the matter in America for the development of Clearing House.

The objective of this Project has been the creation of a website www.residuosnet.dirsa.org in framework has been called "Clearing House", a mechanism of facilitation through a system of information and database to promote the development of an Integral Management of Municipal Solid Waste in Latin America and the Caribbean Cities.  In this website is found information of the municipalities selected for this project.
In first phase four countries were identified:  Argentina, Brazil, Equator and Peru, and a municipality of each country was chosen.  Through the elaboration of a special form was completed and developed to each Municipality a Plan of Integral Management of Urban Solid Waste next to a study of feasibility for the gases utilization of the Sanitary Backfill through the Mechanism of Clean Development MDL.

SABESP honors our Executive Director in re-launching DAE magazine

Luiz Augusto de Lima Pontes was Director of DAE magazine

 

Tuesday night october 23rd in art Gallery of the São Paulo State, Mrs. Dilma Penna, Secretary of Energy and Sanitary of São Paulo State and Dr. Gesner Oliveira, President of SABESP, re-launched the traditional DAE Magazine, founded 71 years ago and for many decades was the main newspaper of the sector of water and sanitary sector in Brazil and America. The unique honored one of the ceremony was our Executive Director Eng. Luiz Augusto de Lima Pontes, that in the second half of the years 1960 and first half of the years 1970, was for 8 years the Responsible Director by DAE Magazine.

Recognition Plate to Luiz Augusto de Lima Pontes by Secretary of Energy and Sanitary Dr. Dilma Penna and SABESP President Dr. Gesner Oliveira.

Eng. Lima Pontes received the homage from President Gesner by to have been one of the greater leaders of the project and by to have commanded for years the Magazine.
More than a just homage to past responsible for the DAE Magazine, we had a very happy night for the Water and Sanitary Sector of São Paulo and Brazil, where the recognition was offered to all dedication of Luiz Augusto de Lima Pontes to Water and Sanitary Sector of the brazilian state, where he occupied the highest functions.
