Agreement signed with WEF in the WEFTEC

Took place in the 80 version of WEFTEC

WEFTEC 2007. the event took place in San Diego CA, with more than 19,600 participants and with the presence of more than 1000 businesses in the technical exposition.

President of WEF, Dr. Mohamed Dahab emphasized in the opening ceremony on october 14th, the new agreement of cooperation to continue working with AIDIS in Latin America. The agreement was signed during the WEFTEC on day 15th afternoon, in presence of WEF Directors and representing AIDIS:
President Dr. Adalberto Noyola Robles, Executive Director Eng. Luiz Augusto de Lima Pontes, Elected President Eng. Carlos Alberto Rosito and the Vice President of Technology Eng. Eduardo Pacheco Jordão. Also was present the Ex-President of ABES, Antonio Cesar Costa e Silva.

The objectives of the agreement signed are:
- WEF and AIDIS will offer spaces to carry out sessions and exhibitions in their events.
- Presidents will maintain a frequent contact.
- WEF has agreed to explore making AIDIS publications available through the WEF distribution network.
- The organizations will develop a technical conference in Latin America.

Session 81 A AIDIS in WEFTEC

Realized on october 16

In October 16 afternoon  was realized the 81 A Session of AIDIS on “Water and Wastewater Management in Latin America - increasing challenges toward an achievable goal”, with moderation carried out by President Adalberto Noyola, attended by the Vice President Eduardo Jordão and Elected President Carlos Alberto Rosito.
The session included expositions of SABESP of Brazil, Business Public.Of Medellín of Colombia, PRASA of Puerto Rico, and the presence of 75 people in assistance, during 3 hours and a half, with prominent participation of the assistants in theme discussion.

Meeting AIDIS/FLUIR

In WEFTEC 2007

Important meeting between AIDIS and NGO Fluir was realized in opportunity of the execution of WefTec2007 in San Diego, CA, United States on October 16, 2007.
The objective of NGO Fluir is stimulate the development and the improvement of the Latin-American industries of plastic tubings; encourage the cooperation among the Fluir associates and other organizations with the common objective to solve problems on latin-american industrial sector of plastic tubings. The objective of the meeting was setting efforts in the search of complying the goals of the millennium.
Participated of the meeting representing AIDIS, President Adalberto Noyola, Elected President Carlos Alberto Rosito, Executive Director Luiz Augusto de Lima Pontes and Vice President of the 3rd Region Jorge Mórtola and representing Fluir Ing. Richard Koheler.

AIDIS in 27th Pan-American Sanitary Conference

October 1-5 in Washington DC

 

AIDIS participated of the 27a Pan-American Sanitary Conference and the 59a Session of the regional Committee of the World Health Organization for America realized in Washington, D.C., October 1-5 2007. AIDIS was represented by the Vice President of the First Regio, Eng. Julio Suero Marranzini. In the occasion the Ing. Suero presented the firm purpose of AIDIS in collaborating with in the OPS activities in area of Health and Environment.

Change date of the III Inter-American Congress of Health and Environment

Postponed for march 2008

DICSA (Inter-American Division of Coordination of Health and Environment) through AEISA, Equatorian chapter of AIDIS, is organizing the III Inter-American Congress of Health and Environment "Environmental Health in America, past, present and future". Fisrt the event was planned for Octobe17 to 20 of this running year, but due to diverse circunstances there was a need to defer arose the execution of the event for march 2008, days19, 20, 21 and 22 in Quito, Equator, taking as reference the celebration of the World Day of the Water.

II Inter-American Congress of Solid Wastes, Viña del Mar, Chile

Event realized in October 3rd to 6th, included the participation of 15 countries

The second Inter-American Congress of Solid Wastes organized by DIRSA (Technical Division of Solid Residues) included the assistance of more than 250 people, representing 15 countries.  A great number of technical works was presented by the delegation of Brazil, being the largest foreign representation, followed by Mexico, Costa Rica and Argentina. The roundtables were presented complete and they had great success in the quality of the presentations and the participation of the assistants.

The event was attended by representatives of DIRSA from: Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Equator, who participated in a very active form in the rooms moderation, as well as the presence of Carlos Rosito, Elected President of Inter-American AIDIS, and Günther Wuhenpool, Residues Management Leader of GTZ in Germany, who was active member in the first Congress of DIRSA in Mexico and now representing GTZ, which had a great participation in this second version.

The Awards to better technical works presented were won by Mexico, Brazil and Argentina.
During the development of the Congress was realized the Expo Dirsa 2007, that included 9 stands, and one of them of AIDIS.
DIRSA through its Inter-American Director, Pilar Tello, thanks the support offered by AIDIS Chile and its members, especially to its President Alex Chechilnitzky, as well as the great work done by Gonzalo Velásquez and Cristian Araneda.

Agreements reached in the Second WOP LAC Meeting in Santa Marta, Colombia

WOP estructure in Latin America and Caribbean

The main objective of the WOP (Water Operator Partnership) is to develop a mechanism for promoting a cooperation among actors in the water and sanitary sector with the intention to accelerate the motion of activities to work in order to complying with the commitments of the Millennium Goals promoted by the UN. To achieve this, the Inter-American Association of Environmental and Sanitary Engineering (AIDIS) was assigned for being the host of the Official Secretary of the network WOP - Latin America and the Caribbean (Network WOP LAC). AIDIS will contribute for this mission with a physical space to install the main offices in the City of Sao Paulo Brazil, a Manager and two Assistants that will form part of the initial administrative crew of the Network WOP LAC. This support is subordinated to obtain a financing to initiate the Network operations.

Steering committee: AIDIS will call the 17 operators that have participated in the two first WOP meetings to become part of the initial Network WOP LAC Steering Committee. Those that accept this position will be guests to the first meeting of the Steering Committee to be celebrated in Bogotá, Colombia on November 12th,13th 2007. This first Committee will work the development of the job plan and conditions of Network WOP LAC membership, and determine the process of rotation to follow by the members of Steering Committee, and the President of the Network.

The Steering Committee should define, mainly, the introduction of the theme of sustainable management for improvement of performance of the operators in the network. Likewise the form of recognition for the clearing/reimbursement should be defined of above-mentioned expenses to the cooperation in function of the different types of cooperation of the different projects.
UNDESA, UN HABITAT and the members of "UN SG' s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation" will have position of observers in the Steering Committee. It is expected that in nearby future when it be obtained a considerable number of associates, sub-regional secretaries of the WOP LAC can be established.

Conditions of Membership: Will be able to be associates of the WOP LAC Network the operators of the water and sanitary sector in the region. Will be able as well, regulating institutions of the water and sanitary sector well as institutes related, associations, networks, consultants and others that might be assets in the region. The level and conditions of membership of these should be determined by the Steering Committee.
It will be considered the selection of these requests depending on the businesses size. This, for encourage and facilitate the participation of medium and small businesses.
All the associates should sign a statement agreeing to:

  • System conditions for cooperation in WOP.
  • Provide reports on WOP realized activities as also reports on specific activities we should call "Innovation in the Sustainable Management of Water and Sanitary" which they could be evaluated like better practices for a possible Regional WOP Award, to define in its moment.

AIDIS will use its extensive information network to contact its National Chapters and the associations of national operators and report them the opportunity and need to associate to WOP LAC Network.
Support initiative to negotiation WOPs. Collection of documents agreement models and experiences in WOP and other cooperation agreements between water and sanitary operators or its use as support to associates of the WOP LAC Network for the development in WOP agreements. AIDIS will take care of doing this compilation with support of all the members of the Group.
