Interamerican Sanitary and Environmental Engineering Association - AIDIS, Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA), the 'Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe' (CEPAL), the 'Organización de los Estados Americanos' (OEA), the Pan-american Health Organization World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), and the 'Oficina Regional para America Latina y el Caribe del Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente' (PNUMA/ORPALC), they met in Cancún, México, on October 28th 2002, declaring the next:

Every second Friday on August, every year will be for “celebrate air quality ” trhu the Inter-american Day of Air Quality - DIARE.

The creation of DIAA it was promoted by Pan-american Health Organization - PAHO, the Interamerican Sanitary and Environmental Engineering Association - AIDIS and the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA). These Institutions created a Document on La Habana, Cuba, in november 1992.
