2nd High Level Technical Meeting: Manantials Protection

With a focus on the protection of springs AIDIS in conjunction with the University of Water and with the support of organized SABESP Second High Level TechnicalMeeting on the theme "Manantials Protection" to be held on June 15, 2011 from 8:30 at 13:00 pm in the auditorium 'Espaço Vida' located at Av. Santos Dumont, 555 - Ponte Pequena - Sao Paulo - SP.

The issue is of paramount importance for the conservation, protection and preservation of vital water resources to supply the Brazilian city and are constantly impacted by human activities developed mainly in large urban centers.

AIDIS President visit Abel Wolman Headquarters

Dr. Rafael Dautant from Venezuela, AIDIS President, visited on last week of March the Permanent Headquarters of AIDIS "Abel Wolman" (in São Paulo, Brazil), to comply an intense agenda.

Inside the activities and events that Rafael Dautant attended in its agenda, visited SABESP to maintain meetings with the Company's President, Dr. Dilma Pena and with Directors Eng. Paulo Massato and Eng. Marcelo Sales.

The Dr. Dautant did the official delivery of the resultant electronic handbook of the First Technical Encounter of Highly Level on Re-use of Water to Directors of SABESP: Eng. Paulo Massato Director of the Metropolitan Directory and Eng. Marcelo Sales, Director of Tecnology, Training and Environment.
In the agenda that our President complied in São Paulo, it took place a meeting with the Secretary of Energy and Water Resources of the São Paulo State, Edson Giriboni. AIDIS' President revealed the intentions of AIDIS' cooperation with the Secretariat in the matters that both Institutions work in search of a better quality of life. The Secretary showed all its support so that AIDIS carry out activities that seek to improve the life of the inhabitants of the Americas.

Rafael Dautant was invited by Eng. Cassilda Teixeira, ABES' President, to participate of AESB meeting (brazilian sanitary businesses association), that took place in Brasilia on March 30th.
In the event, President Dautant had the opportunity to introduce AIDIS and its next Inter-american Congress that will be carried out in Salvador, Brazil from May 27th to May 30th, 2012.

In São Paulo, Dr. Dautant visited CETESB to maintain a meeting with its President, Eng. Otavio Okano and its collaborators crew (among them, Fátima Carrara who presented one of the plenary sessions on the last AIDIS' congress in Punta Cana). The two Presidents rectified the agreement of cooperation that is maintained since many years ago and which has yielded exelent results.

AIDIS & CETESB teams altogether
Finally, inside of the AIDIS' President agenda could not lack a visit of camaraderie to the ABES Headquarters (São Paulo Section), where its President, the Eng. Dante Pauli kindly received to the group of directors and collaborators of AIDIS.

Then, in a lunch between friends of AIDIS and ABES, Rafael Dautant had a pleasant encounter with the Eng. Fernando Mangabeira, Director of the Foz Brazil (Odenbrecht).

Guatemala is nominated “Capital Country of Water”
'promote a good use of water'
Guatemala will be Capital Country of the Water for two years. Thus the Inter-american Association of Sanitary Engineering arranged it (Aidis) in alliance with the Pan-american Organization of the Health (PAHO). Aidis is an international civil entity conformed by 32 countries of America and the Caribbean. Each 2 years the places that thus desire they are advanced it to be chosen.
Nevertheless, it is offered the title to which presents greater needs, but also a place with opportunities of improvement.
The challenge of Guatemala is to promote the cover and good use of the water resource, affirms Martin Méndez, president of the Guatemalan Association of Sanitary Engineering and Environmentalist (Agisa). Also it wants to make aware to the civil company in the theme of the care of the water.
Gloria Aragon, legal expert of the United Nations for the Agriculture and Food affirms that the civic participation is necessary to resolve problems that are of concern to all not alone to the governmental companies.
Another objective of the project is to achieve that the state entities coordinate actions, explains Guillermo Orozco, from PAHO. The country does not count on a law that regulate the use and processing of the liquid and not all the population has access to the drinking water.
Agisa will take charge of the activities to achieve the goals of the project, but does not have financial resources destined. Therefore, the PAHO will support with personnel and locations to carry out the forums, boards and workshops to the governmental companies and civil company.

62 years PAHO-AIDIS
With this publication 62 years of successful alliance among the Pan-american Organization of the Health are celebrated (PAHO) and the Interamerican Sanitary and Environmental Engineering Association (AIDIS), and 50 years of the PAHO Tecnhical Simposiums carried out previously to the Inter-american congresses of AIDIS.
